What do we do?

What do we do?

YouthCARE Canberra provides pro-active outreach services to young people (12 to 25 years) at risk, including those who face homelessness and violence.

On any given night in Canberra, our youth care workers have estimated that around 100 young people are homeless. Some “couch-surf” with friends, others face a night on the streets or hidden away in the bushlands.

We are non judgmental and offer after hours’ availability. Key goals include providing immediate support and then working with the client and other services over the medium term on housing, education and wellbeing.

This can involve advocacy and basic life skills. YouthCARE Canberra goes out into the community and engages with young people who cannot, or will not, access services, working with them over time rather than on discrete problems.

We seek to re-connect them to mainstream society.
